We were up and off to the airport by 7:50 am for an 8:45 departure. We arrived at the airport with time to spare. They checked us in manually and did a most hand search of the luggage as they have no electronic screening devices. The plane was delayed about an hour. As we set there we could listen to the wind howl. Not sure we wanted to get on a plane at all. However, the howling appeared to be just through the windows. It wasn’t really too bad.
All our fussing about weight was for naught…they didn’t bother to weigh it. Probably eyeballed it and decided it should be pretty close. The plane is pretty small. It holds 11 passengers. There were 8 on the flight.
Because of its size it flies relatively low so we were able to get good views of Uganda from the air.
Cute kiosk at the Entebbe airport.
We were picked up by Stanley and taken directly to the hotel.
Shortly after checking in we were met by Lydia from Classic Africa Safaris and a nurse who to COVID test samples. We will need negative test results to get into Kenya tomorrow. Lydia also conducted a pretty thorough debriefing of our trip.
After lunch Stanley came back to pick us up
for our trip to the Uganda Wildlife Education Center. It is a zoo there in Entebbe. Many of the animals were rescues. Others they have received to help with
breeding programs.
Our guide, Douglas, gave us a “behind the scenes” tour which consisted mainly of taking us to the various exhibits and at several of them we went into the cage areas where he would call the animals in by name. Animals we saw included:
Vervet Monkey
Elephant
White Tiger
Serval Cat with kittens
a Caracal Cat named Lucy
Cheetah

All of the animals have a name and they generally responded to his call. The two white rhinos were particularly responsive to his calling them.
We saw many animals that are native to Uganda and to Africa but there were several others including a white and an orange Bengal tigers.
Douglas had lots of information and we
certainly enjoyed the tour of the zoo.
Once back at the hotel we did a bunch of
repacking, getting ready for our trip to Kenya, and then headed down for a late
dinner. Tomorrow will be a long day as
our flight doesn’t leave until quite late.
